What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is an effective and safe manual exfoliation procedure. Dermaplaning involves shaving the surface of the skin with light feather-like strokes using a scalpel. Because treatment uses such a sharp shaving tool, it achieves a very close shave to eliminate unwanted hair and dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. By removing hair and the outermost layer of the epidermis, dermaplaning removes buildup from oil and dirt.
What does treatment feel like?
Dermaplaning is a painless procedure that only takes about 15-20 minutes. Before treatment, your skin will be thoroughly cleaned with a mild cleanser to loosen dead skin cells and skin is treated with moisturizer immediately after treatment is completed. During treatment, you will feel a light sensation of the blade moving over your face.
Who is a good candidates for dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is beneficial for patients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyper pigmentation; mild acne scarring and those with fine lines and wrinkles. However, it is not advised to those with acne.
How does Dermaplaning work?
Dermaplaning works by mechanically exfoliating your skin. After cleansing your face, the therapist will use a small, surgical blade to gently scrape the surface of the epidermis with light, feathery strokes. Dermaplaning will remove dirt, oil, dead skin cells and vellus hair, leaving the skin smooth and vibrant.
Will the “peach fuzz” on my face grow back darker and thicker?
No. This is a common myth, but the hair on your face is not the same as the hair on your legs or bikini line. It will not be affected by a dermaplane in any way. The procedure does not trigger hair follicles. The light vellus hair that you may have on your faces will grow back at the same rate and texture and color as before the treatment.
When will I see results?
Initial benefits from dermplane treatments are immediately apparent. However, optimal results require regular maintenance treatments. It took many years for your skin to lose its vitality, and it takes time to regenerate new cells.
What results can I expect?
Brighter, softer and smoother skin that glows with renewed health. You will also notice a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, hyperpigmentation and superficial acne scars.
Can I combine my dermaplane with other treatments?
Yes! Dermaplaning may be effectively combined as pretreatment before a chemical peel.
How often can this procedure be performed?
Dermaplaning will remove about 3 weeks’ worth of dead surface skin cells so it is best to wait around 3 to 4 weeks between procedures.
