Many patients feel a warm sting as the laser penetrates the hair follicle. 

The machine used makes use of a sapphire touch cooling system to cool the skin during treatment.

Furthermore, to minimize the discomfort, a cooling gel is applied to the skin before treatment. If required, a topical anaesthetic can also be applied.

The 808 nm laser treatment impair the growth capacity of the hair follicles when the hair follicles are in their active growth stage. 

Not all hair follicles are in the active growth stage at the same time and therefore several laser treatments may be necessary before the desired result is obtained.  

Typically, most patients experience a marked reduction in hair growth with four treatments at least a month apart. 

Laser and IPL treatments are both very popular forms of permanent hair removal. 

IPL is an acronym for Intense Pulsed Light. It is often used for permanent hair removal and skin rejuvenation. IPL is often mistaken as laser but the technologies are actually very different. 

IPL uses a broad spectrum high intensity light source that is fired through a series of light filters to produce a band of light wavelengths.  IPL is like using a very strong light bulb and is usually cheaper than laser. 

Laser produces a single precise wavelength rather than a band of wavelengths. Specific wavelengths may be required for different types of treatments. 808 nm is the wavelength of choice for permanent hair removal and is suitable for most hair colours and skin types. 

Laser, using only a specific wavelength, best suited for the required treatment is more effective and have less unintended complications.
